Is this tool different from the Background Remover?

Yes. This tool removes the background and immediately fills it with a solid color of your choice, all in one step. The Background Remover instead gives you a transparent PNG cutout that you can place over anything.

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. This tool uses a local AI model (@imgly/background-removal) that downloads once and then runs entirely inside your browser. Your photo is never uploaded anywhere.

Why does the first run take longer?

The AI model (~8MB) needs to download the first time you use the tool. It's cached by your browser afterward, so subsequent uses are fast.

Can I use a custom color, not just the presets?

Yes. Use the custom color picker next to the presets to choose any exact hex color.

Is the tool free?

Yes, completely free with no signup and no watermark.
